How are you using it, internally or externally
If externally always put it in input 2
check audio levels (while wearing headphones)
The sound should be clear not distorted
listen for any unwanted audio such as electric hum or background chatter.

Not all lights have the same colour so you'll need to tell the camera what colour the lights are
Place a pure white sheet of paper next to your subject
Zoom into paper so it fully fills the frame
press AWB, screen will go black then return with correct colour

exposure
exposure is how bright/dark your shot is
ensure you dont have any blown out highlights or crushed shadows
Zebra lines will help identify over exposure
You can use ND filters
